History of Hospital: St. Joseph’s Hospital is a rural hospital situated in Naduvil Grama Punchayath, in Kannur District of Kerala state. It is the charitable institution and realization of the dream cherished by the Catholic Diocese of Thalasserry. Majority of the people of this area are migrated from central part of Kerala looking for better agricultural facilities for their livelihood. Regarding health status many of them became slave of sick due to hard work, climate changes, and lack of nutritional food. They had a Government Hospital at Thaliparambu which is ….. kms away from this hilly area for their medical needs. In this regard Mar Sebastian Vallopilly, Arch Bishop of Thalasserry Arch Diocese took initiative to start a charitable hospital in Alakode area. Hospital had its humble begging in 1961 under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Mathew Murinjakallel, who was the Parish Priest of Vellad Parish with the blessings of Mar Sebastian Vallopilly and the help of Parish Committee members and loving settlers of this area is for the provision of general medical facilities to local people.
Down through the years, Rev. Fr. John Kadukumakkal (1964 -1968), Rev. Fr. Thomas Muthukattil (1968 – 1975) Rev. Fr. Thomas Nilakapally (1975 -1983) the formal directors of this hospital took valuable initiatives and welfare approaches for a speedy growth and development of the Hospital.
